Dolly Parton is everything. But out of everything, two things stand out.
She is loved by everyone. No matter your beliefs, age, gender, race, or star sign, she probably represents something to you. By being for everyone, she is a blank slate. In a way, she is no one.
Dolly also represents an idea of nostalgia that feels universal. She tells us that, in a world where things seem to worsen with each passing day, she can show us simplicity—a clean, warm, gentle world of memory –a world that possibly never existed.
Dolly is nobody and represents nothing, yet she is everything. This piece is not about Dolly.
