Glory Game

by Dominik Więcek / Sticky Fingers Club (Poland)
14:00 – SNG – Nova Gorica

How does the media influence the perception of sports and turn the human body into a commodity?
Glory Game examines how the ever-watchful camera feeds the audience’s fascination with athletes as they endure pain and destruction, transforming them into characters in a perpetual melodrama. The performance unfolds in a physically challenging slow motion, set within a square of sand that serves as a racetrack, battlefield, playground and refuge. Blending absurdity with profound beauty, Glory Game captures the titanic effort of bodies defying human limits, questioning the price of such feats in the name of entertainment and spectacle.

Biography:

Starting from an autobiographical perspective, Dominik Więcek’s performances are playful and lighthearted. He flirts with many theatrical genres and deconstructs dance and theatre traditions with a sense of humour. Więcek believes in confessional performances in which honesty can be situated somewhere between privacy and theatrical formality. Since 2020, he has co-created with the Sticky Fingers Club, crafting durational and stage works. His piece ‘Café Müller’ (2021) was selected for Aerowaves #Twenty23.

Notes:

Dominik Więcek offers two differents workshops:
“Glory for Everyone” is a three-part programme (ages 14+) designed for schools, community centres, and cultural institutions. The programme begins with a 90-minute participatory workshop led by choreographer Dominik Więcek. The second part is the performance itself. Finally, an interactive after-talk invites participants to reflect – not just on what they have seen, but also on how it resonates with their own experiences.

“Glory Game Masterclass” is an intensive workshop designed for dance professionals, led by choreographer Dominik Więcek. In this four-hour masterclass, participants delve into the demanding slow-motion technique, which reconstructs the shapes and gestures of athletes with extreme physical precision.
