AFTER ALL is a show about death. It is a celebration of our vulnerable and courageous existence using dance, theatre, storytelling and comedy to ask: how do we deal with the end?
By exploring various funeral rites – ones we have, ones we have lost, and those yet to be invented – choreographer Solène Weinachter confronts our transition between worlds head-on. AFTER ALL is a hopeful attempt to conjure a better sort of space for us to be with loss and collectively contemplate the finite nature of our lives.
Solène is a choreographer and performer based between Scotland and France. AFTER ALL is her first multi-disciplinary solo written in 2023 after working for 15 years in close collaboration with Ben Duke and Joan Clevillé.
Her artistic practice is rooted in the intersection between dance, theatre, story telling, laughter and (what could be perceived as) uncomfortable conversations. Her work endeavours to foster exchanges between people through and around the show.
The piece exists as a 60 min version.
It can be played indoors and has options for outdoors.
It can be presented in English and French
It can be presented with integrated British Sign Language or French Sign Language.
It can be presented with Audio Description in English.
It can be presented with surtitles (French and English and glypheo file available matching the rhythm of the show).
Beyond AFTER ALL:
a space to speak about death together. This is facilitated time for group conversation to share any experiences, feelings or questions around death. It can host up to 20 participants, who are welcome to discuss any aspects of death and dying that they wish to. People are welcome to just come and listen with no pressure to speak, and it is open to anyone regardless of whether you have attended the show AFTER ALL or not. There will be some time afterwards to drink tea together, and for any further conversation if desired. It is not a space that offers grief support or counselling, but is inspired by and follows in the tradition of the Death Cafe movement (that began in the UK in 2011) and aims to host informal, respectful and confidential space.
