Blue Carousel

Bysheim & Patry (Norway)
21:00 – Teatro Comunale Giuseppe Verdi Gorizia

Blue Carousel is a satire on seduction. A power play of expectations and associations, collapsing and climaxing into a series of transformations. Bysheim and Patry work with humour and repetition as a choreographic tool to comment on how the female body is viewed, objectified and categorised.

In a study of the seductive body, based on humour and bird mating dances, they indulge in all-consuming moments. Through a series of performative situations, they revel, twist and defy expectations through layers of fiction. They present soft and unforeseen confrontations, while insistent movements are woven together with transformative techno beats arranged by dj’s asiangirlsonly.

Biography:

Lisa Colette Bysheim (NO) and Katrine Patry (CA) have collaborated since 2018. They are particularly interested in using humour to dissolve preconceived ideas. Working with the ‘spectacle’ as a tool to explore underlying themes of objectification, human behaviour and socially constructed expectations, they aim to question and play with the nuances in power relations.

Notes:

The piece exists as a 50 and a 40 minute version. It can be performed with 2 live D’s or with only a track of the sound design (3 or 5 people on tour). It can be performed both indoors and outdoors on a stage. If in a double bill blue felt carpets are not used, this can be included for a single performance.

They offer the following activities: Club night with dj’s asiangirlsonly, an after talk with the artistic team and a movement workshop based on the methods and tasks used in the development of Blue Carousel.
